Fake Doctor Busted In Midrand: JMPD Arrests Pakistani Woman ‘Practising’ Without Qualifications

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit has arrested a 50-year-old Pakistani national accused of impersonating a registered medical doctor at a Midrand medical clinic.

The arrest followed a tip-off received on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, alerting officers to suspicious activity at a medical clinic on South Road. When police arrived at the premises, they found the female suspect in the middle of consultations with two patients.

Suspect Admits She Never Qualified as a Doctor

JMPD officers requested that the woman provide documentation proving she was legally authorised to practise medicine, including a valid practice number. She was unable to present any supporting documents.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed that she had never completed her medical studies and did not hold any recognised medical qualifications or certificates. She further admitted that she had been operating as a medical practitioner for more than ten years without proper registration or approval.

Patients’ Files Seized as Health Department Issues Warning

Police confiscated six patient files from the consulting room, along with various medical stationery items such as sick notes, prescription pads and completed eye screening certificates. Officers also discovered PRDP certificates and documents bearing the names of different medical doctors.

The woman was arrested and is facing charges of fraud as well as contravention of the Health Professions Act.

The arrest comes amid growing concern over bogus healthcare practitioners in Gauteng. Last year, IOL reported that the provincial health department urged both residents and healthcare workers to remain vigilant after a woman posing as a doctor was caught at Tembisa Tertiary Hospital.

“Unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals put innocent lives at risk,” said provincial health department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba.

“It is a criminal offence for any person to impersonate healthcare professionals and to practice whilst not registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.”
