Woman Linked To Facebook Marketplace Murder After Two Months On Run

A 23-year-old woman allegedly connected to the Facebook Marketplace scam that claimed the life of Mogamat Yusuf Daniels — just a week before his wedding — has been arrested.

Sources confirm that Ashiekah Naidoo surrendered herself to police on Wednesday, shortly after authorities issued a public appeal for help tracing her whereabouts.

Naidoo is expected to make her first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.

Arrest Comes Days After Public Appeal

Her arrest follows two days after the Daily Voice published an article asking readers to assist in locating her.

While Naidoo was taken into custody, her co-accused Morte Nelson appeared in the same court on Wednesday. Nelson’s bail hearing was postponed to 28 November.

A third accused, Monray Martin, remains under police guard in hospital after being shot during the incident.

All three face murder charges.

Family: ‘She Is the Mastermind’

Daniels’ family has long maintained that Naidoo was the architect behind the deadly ambush.

Daniels, 29, died on 24 September after being lured into what he believed was a legitimate sale arranged through Facebook Marketplace. He had planned to sell his phone to raise funds for his upcoming wedding.

Two women allegedly contacted him online and arranged a meeting at an Ottery garage — but the meeting never happened as planned.

Daniels’ uncle, Abduragman Jacobs, recalled the events surrounding the fatal encounter.

“Two girls contacted him and showed interest, saying their father was going to buy the phone for them,” he explained.

Daniels dropped his fiancée at home, picked up his cousin and the cousin’s son for safety, and drove to meet the supposed buyers. The women then redirected them from the Engen garage in Ottery Road to a nearby shop — moments before the deadly attack unfolded.

‘The Minute Facebook Marketplace Murder Hit the Media, There Was No Hiding’

Following Naidoo’s arrest, Jacobs expressed relief.

“All praise to God,” he said. “She was on the run for two months, and the minute she was in the media, there was no hiding. The jig was up.”

“When I heard she was arrested, it was amazing news. It was a relief. They had her, and it was like a cat-and-mouse game because she was still active on social media, living her life.”

“Now we will hear all her excuses that she will make up for what she has done.”
