43 Year-Old Ex-Police Officer Accused Of Murder, Intimidation, Arson

A former police officer, Mehlape Malesela Andries, 43, appeared in the Mankweng magistrate’s court on Tuesday, facing charges of intimidation, arson, and murder.

Andries, previously stationed at Yeoville police station in Johannesburg, allegedly targeted his girlfriend, the mother of the murdered teenager, in a series of intimidating advances and violent acts.

According to Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the National Prosecuting Authority’s Limpopo spokesperson, Andries began sending intimidating text messages to his girlfriend.

Phone Threats

The threats led to a case of intimidation being opened against him.

The next day, he allegedly set fire to her rental home’s door.

On March 14, Andries encountered the 14-year-old victim, who was on her way to school, and stabbed her twice with a knife, resulting in her death.

Case Postponed, Accused Remains In Custody

The case has been postponed to March 24 to allow Andries to obtain legal representation. He remains in custody.

Notably, Andries’ parents had obtained a protection order against him, barring him from entering their home.

The investigation is ongoing, and the National Prosecuting Authority will continue to monitor the case.
