Ex-Husband’s Chilling Words Before Killing Pregnant Woman In Front Of Child: “I Would Never Want You To Be Happy”

Aleyka Shaik, 34, who was five months pregnant with twins, was allegedly fatally stabbed by her ex-husband, Keith Chetty, in the presence of their seven-year-old daughter, Zahraa, on Sunday night in Northdale, Pietermaritzburg.

Shaik had arrived at Chetty’s home to collect Zahraa when the alleged attack occurred. According to her current husband, Tristen Arjuna, the ex-husband reportedly told Shaik, “I would never want you to be happy” before stabbing her.

Ex-Husband Stabs Woman In Front Of Child

Arjuna recounted that Zahraa witnessed the initial stabbing but managed to escape and seek help. “The suspect allegedly entered the front passenger seat and told Aleyka, ‘I would never want you to be happy’ before he stabbed her in the stomach,” Arjuna said.

He added that Shaik suffered multiple stab wounds while trying to reach her daughter, ultimately collapsing and dying at the scene.

Efforts to reach Shaik by phone failed, and a security company later informed Arjuna of her death. Chetty fled but was apprehended by community members and police two hours later in Woodlands.

Family and Community React to Tragedy

The couple had married only two months prior, with plans for a December wedding and a gender reveal. Arjuna shared the devastating impact of the attack: “Just that Sunday, we felt the babies move for the first time. We were so happy.”

Ward councillor Renisha Singh described the attack as “merciless and senseless,” underlining the ongoing problem of violence against women. Family members expressed their grief, noting the trauma inflicted on Zahraa, who has now lost her mother, and the emotional toll on Shaik’s parents.
