Errol Musk Claims ANC Sought Election Support And Starlink Stake From Elon Musk

Errol Musk has alleged that President Cyril Ramaphosa and the African National Congress (ANC) attempted to gain Elon Musk’s support ahead of South Africa’s national elections, including a request for a stake in Starlink.

According to the billionaire’s father, his son rejected the approach outright.

“Before the election, Ramaphosa sent me a letter to send to Elon, asking him for support. And he had the idea that Elon would respond, but Elon didn’t.

“Before I sent the letter, Ramaphosa’s secretary contacted me and said, Don’t send the letter, we’ve changed, we think it’s not a good idea but I had already sent the letter,” he said during an interview on the Truth Report Podcast on YouTube.

ANC Election Strategy Allegedly Included Starlink Ownership Request

The ANC’s support dipped below 50% in last year’s national poll, forcing it into a Government of National Unity alongside the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Errol Musk said he had facilitated communication between the presidency and Elon Musk on previous occasions, even arranging a phone call between the two. However, he claimed he had no insight into what was discussed during that call.

He further alleged that the ANC later sought an ownership stake in Starlink — initially 30%, then 39% — before proposing a $100 million donation instead.

‘ANC wanted 30% ownership of Starlink. Then they wanted 39%. Then they said they’ll take $100 million donation. You’re talking to the wrong person when you say that kind of thing to Elon Musk.

“That’s not the way you deal with Elon. I mean, that guy, Elon, will stop the world from turning rather than give you what you want like that.'”

Musk’s Ongoing Criticism of Government Policies

Elon Musk has previously criticised the South African government, accusing it of enforcing race-based regulations. He has also claimed that Starlink is unavailable in the country because he is “not Black”.
