
It seems like South Africa has had their best series. Last Sunday, 18 June had Mzansi Magic viewers glued on their screens as Shaka iLembe premiered.
Well, we have to let you know that the series gathered a record-breaking audience of 3.6 million views last week Sunday in South Africa. It was also number 1 on the DStv app in several African countries, including Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, reported News24.
The 12-episode series, which started last Sunday, is set in the 1700s and chronicles the narrative of the renowned Zulu king’s development from birth to manhood.
Thinus Ferreria, an independent television critic, noted in his review: “Shaka iLembe reaches for and represents a towering achievement in what’s possible for South African filmmaking.”
The cast includes Nomzamo Mbatha (Nandi), Wiseman Mncube(Zwide), Khabonina Qubeka (Queen Ntombazi), Ntando Zondi(Young Shaka), Senzo Radebe (Senzangakhona) and Dawn Thandeka King(Princess Mkabayi). Also featured in episode one was Calvin Ratladi, Ziya Xulu, Don Mlangeni, Ayanda Borotho, Abdul Khoza and Sibonile Ngubane.
