It seems like the South African DJ space is becoming a popular fallback career for celebrities whose primary pursuits aren’t quite working out. The latest addition to this trend is Stoan, a member of the iconic group Bongo Maffin and a rapper in his own right.
Stoan, whose real name is Serai Tshepo Seate, has recently embarked on a DJing career. He can be found regularly performing at the renowned Randburg nightclub, Amigos.
With his versatile style, Stoan plays a mix of old-school kwaito, house, hip-hop, and amapiano, pleasing a diverse crowd.
The club management has been impressed with the reception to Stoan’s music. “He brings an amazing crowd who love some of the throwbacks,” they say.
“Stoan respects his craft, and age is never a barrier when it comes to music. He’s a talented DJ, and we hope to see him play at bigger festivals in the future.”
While Stoan continues to explore his DJing talents, his friend acknowledges that Bongo Maffin may never fully make a comeback. “Let’s be honest,” he says, “Thandiswa has successfully built her own brand outside of the group, and she was the bond that glued them all together.”
Venturing into DJing is a smart move for Stoan, as it allows him to showcase his skills and connect with fans in a new way. The South African DJ space may be crowded, but with his talent and dedication, Stoan has the potential to make a name for himself in this ever-evolving industry.
