Just when you thought you had seen it all, along comes the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant to remind us that no, you really haven’t.
South Africans were left in stitches after some rather ‘interesting’ behind-the-scenes photos surfaced from the Miss Universe Nigeria preparations set to happen on 31 August 2024. If stage decor and contestant glam was meant to impress, it sure had the opposite effect.

Thanks to a rather controversial entry by Chidimma Adetshina, the pageant has become a meme goldmine on social media. South Africans couldn’t believe their eyes, comparing the Nigerian pageant’s setup to their local Miss South Africa contest.
Spoiler alert: they were not impressed. Twitter user Qhamadlula_ shared snaps from the contestants’ first day of camp and orientation. Chidimma, who wore a sash labelled ‘Taraba,’ was spotted among contestants, seemingly less than thrilled about the whole shindig.

Mzanzi netizens—never ones to miss a trolling opportunity— had field day roasting the pageant. Some compared the scenes to a preschool graduation while others questioned what the grand prize might be, joking it could be a bag of rice and a goat.
One user nailed it with: “Chidimma is not happy with how the set for Miss Universe Nigeria looks like grade R graduations,” capturing the general sentiment quite aptly.
From digs about the pageant’s ‘low-budget’ appearance to speculations on whether Chidimma regretted entering, South Africans did not hold back their opinions. The overall vibe? Hilarious.
