DJ Zinhle is one of South Africa’s most popular DJ’s and her chart-topping hot ‘Umlilo’ is still one of the nation’s favourite track.
You will hear ‘Umlilo’playing everywhere, in taxis, clubs and weddings. It’s a song about love and South Africa’s love stories.

What fans may not know about the song is that ‘Umlilo’ which translates to ‘Fire’ in Zulu , has a biblical meaning.
DJ Zinhle explained in a recent conversation with Red Bull that the song narrated the scenario in the Bible where Moses met God on the mountain and saw a burning bush.

“There has been a big debate about ‘ Umlilo’ because it’s such a big club or party song and people don’t know that’s it’s actually a song that praises God. It talks about the wonders of God’s love and it is based on the Bible scriptures which is amazing.”
The DJ further elaborated that after sending the brief about the song to Rathabile and Muzzle who are featured on the song, they created a WhatsApp group named “ next hit song “ the three knew that this was a song South Africans we’re gonna love and they were right.
She also said that’s when they were done making ‘Umlilo’, she knew that they had a big song the moment she walked out of the studio.
“There were moments where I played the song and I just wanted to cry because people were so happy and they were singing it”, she said.
