Well, it seems South African singer Makhadzi decided to see what happens when you drop a bombshell on social media. On a recent Friday night, the ‘Ghanama’ performer made a comment about ex-Miss SA contestant Chidimma Adetshina that had everyone in stitches—or rather, shouting.

She took to her X account and posted, “Chidimma. Chichi. My sister from South Africa. I wish she [were the] MC [at] my one-woman show ko Polokwane. Phela, she is one of us, allegedly.”

Unsurprisingly, that post did not exactly get hearts and roses from the fans; instead, it put her in hot water.

Realising that she had stirred quite the hornets’ nest, Makhadzi quickly did the social media equivalent of a moonwalk out of the situation—she deleted the post.

Then, she issued yet another post to apologize, which she also deleted soon after. Her apology read, “i’m sorry, yhoo. i didn’t know how you feel. please forgive me.” But alas, the apology didn’t go down well with everyone. Some netizens were unforgiving, while others brushed it off as her version of dry humour.

As you’d expect, the land of Mzansi had a lot to say. @bokenza1 chimed in: “makhadzi doesn’t even read her contracts. we can’t be mad at her.” @_djmosh added, “one thing makhadzi will do is apologise.”

And of course, there’s always the straightforward @bokamosomc who wrote: “how dare she say she didn’t know how we feel? didn’t she see what was happening in the past three weeks or so? mara makhadzi.”

Clearly, Makhadzi’s attempt at humour or whatever it was, didn’t land the way she hoped.

Whether or not Makhadzi genuinely didn’t know how South Africans felt about Chidimma, the fact remains that her comment lit up social media in a way she probably didn’t intend.

While some fans just shrugged it off and laughed, others were vocal about their disappointment. If Makhadzi’s goal was to get tongues wagging, she definitely achieved that. Only time will tell if her fans will let this one slide, or if they’ll keep giving her the side-eye.
