London-based South African artist Toya Delazy, also known as Latoya Nontokozo Buthelezi, is bidding farewell to her beloved grandfather, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. The founder of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) passed away at the remarkable age of 95, leaving behind a legacy that will be forever remembered.
In a heartfelt tribute, Toya Delazy expressed her admiration for her late grandfather, describing him as a prominent leader and an incredible father figure. She reminisced about the close bond they shared and how he and his late wife, Princess Irene, had played a pivotal role in her life after the passing of her own mother.
As a young child, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi was not only there to provide for Toya’s needs but also served as a significant influence on her cultural identity and artistic journey. Toya proudly credits him for shaping her knowledge and passion for her Zulu heritage, which is evident in her music.
To honour her grandfather’s memory, Toya Delazy recited a touching poem that beautifully encapsulated the love and admiration she had for him. Through her words, she painted a picture of a man who had touched many lives and left an indelible mark on the world.
