In a surprising turn of events, Chidimma Adetshina, a former Miss South Africa contestant, has been given a golden opportunity to fast-track as a finalist in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
This invitation was extended just a day after the 23-year-old announced her ‘difficult decision’ to step down from the local Miss SA competition.

Over recent weeks, Chidimma has become a hot topic, primarily due to her African parentage. She boasts a Nigerian father and an alleged Mozambican mother, adding layers of intrigue to her backstory.
The Miss SA finale, set to take place on Saturday, 10 August, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, will be without this dazzling contestant. Nonetheless, Chidimma seems to have sparked more excitement as she steps onto a grander stage.
The news first broke on Miss Universe Nigeria’s official social media accounts. The pageant owner, Guy James Murray-Bruce, personally invited Chidimma Adetshina to participate in their competition, which is now running its second year and has announced its top 24 candidates.
Her Nigerian heritage made her eligible for this swift entry into the finals. A statement from the pageant read, ‘We at Miss Universe Nigeria have been closely following the developments regarding your decision to bow out of the Miss South Africa beauty pageant. We acknowledge the circumstances surrounding your withdrawal and understand the challenges you may be facing.’
The pageant continued to show heartfelt support, expressing, ‘In light of these events, we want to extend our support and encouragement. We believe that your journey in the world of pageantry is far from over.
There are still numerous opportunities for you to showcase your talent, grace, and beauty.’ It’s clearly a significant opportunity for Chidimma to represent her father’s native Nigeria on an international platform.
