Bonang Matheba’s reality show B Dazzled has recently come under fire, sparking a vigorous defense from her loyal fanbase, the B-Force. No surprise there.
Critiques allege the show isn’t relatable, as it primarily showcases glam rather than grit. But as the B-Force would say: If you want suffering, there’s always Moja Love.
Resurrected from its 2011 YouTube roots, B Dazzled now provides an up-close-and-personal glimpse into the world of one of Africa’s most influential personalities.
Bonang uses the show to share invaluable entertainment and lifestyle business insights, delivered with her signature humorous and unapologetic flair. While the revamped version has been highly anticipated, not everyone’s feeling the enchantment.
TV critic, TV with Thinus, didn’t pull any punches while reviewing the ratings of the show, claiming the viewership has been shockingly low. According to reports, just 331,238 viewers tuned in for episode four.
A significant portion of the criticism boils down to the show lacking “reality.” As Tholang Motsumi mentions, “Where are her trials and sorrows? She denies the world the real her on the shows and most people can’t relate!”
I love Bonang but her reality shows have 0 reality in them, shez always happy n glamorous in the shows and real life has trials and sorrows, where are hers??she denies the world the real her on the shows n most people cant relate! https://t.co/gt2NA4OHUC

To say the B-Force was less than thrilled with this critique is slightly understating it. They rapidly mobilized to defend their queen. One fan sarcastically noted, “If you want sadness and misery, watch Moja Love. Black life isn’t only about cheating or witchcraft.”
Another chimed in, celebrating Bonang’s brand of aspirational reality, “We’ve seen enough reality from Dineo Ranaka’s show to her whole family, which they sometimes overplayed. We appreciate the glamour Bonang gives us.”
I just feel ppl who demand such from Bonang are not her fans. Guys if you want sadness and misery watch Moja-love. Black life is not only about cheating, polygamy, witchcraft. https://t.co/x5IMaDWCsJ

We’ve seen enough reality from Dineo Ranaka to her whole family which they even overplayed sometimes. We appreciate the glamour & seeing that it is possible for a black girl to live a glamorous life through Bonang. They just need to change the channel & also taking it to Showmax. https://t.co/tCSz3TIkpR

Anyone saying they can’t relate to Bonang because she is ‘too glamorous’ & ‘always happy’ is weird & lying, nobody wants to see difficulties in someone’s life to relate…you want to feel better about your circumstances 🤚🏾

Wanting Bonang to suffer to appear more relatable is some nasty ass misogynoir.

The debate rages on, but one thing’s for sure—Bonang Matheba’s fans are as dazzlingly fierce as their queen.
