South African actor Wiseman Mncube recently shared profound insights into his journey as a sangoma during the fourth Ancestors Day celebration in Muldersdrift, West Rand.
With a touch of wit and a deep reverence for ancestral guidance, Wiseman captivated the audience as he delved into the transformative power of embracing his cultural heritage.
As the attendees, including fellow actor Wiseman Ncube, television show host and celebrity sangoma Gogo Dineo, and reality TV star Mpho Wabadimo, gathered to celebrate Ancestors Day, Wiseman opened up about his spiritual calling.
He expressed his unwavering belief in his gift and calling, refusing to engage in any discussions that questioned his beliefs. With a contented heart, he acknowledged that his ancestors played a pivotal role in shaping his journey, stating, “If my ancestor wasn’t there, I wouldn’t be here on earth.”
Wiseman emphasised that he only listens to the voices of those who bestowed him with the gift, disregarding any other opinions. When faced with struggles, he seeks solace in his hut, engaging in the powerful act of speaking directly to his ancestors using impepho and other sacred rituals.
Reflecting on his younger days, Wiseman shared that he initially denied his calling and ran from it, much like any other young person would. However, during his initiation process into ubungoma, he had a revelation that came through his grandmother. In this profound moment, his grandmother instructed him to relocate his mother from Ulundi to Vryheid, a town in northern KZN.
Despite not having the financial means at the time, Wiseman and his family were determined to follow the guidance of their ancestors.
In a twist of fate, a white man they had spoken to in Vryheid unexpectedly called them the next morning, offering them the place they desired, even if they could only bring whatever amount of money they had.
This serendipitous turn of events affirmed Wiseman’s belief that his ancestors were at work, guiding and providing for him.
Wiseman also shed light on his role in the play “Shaka Ilembe,” explaining that he understood why he was meant to be part of the cast.
