The social media streets are buzzing once again, and this time, it’s got everything to do with the ‘Blood & Water’ actress, Ama Qamata.
After weighing in on the Miss SA finalist Chidimma Adetshina’s saga, Ama found herself at the receiving end of some heated criticism. Ah, South Africa, you never disappoint!

In case you missed it, tensions have been high ever since the Department of Home Affairs uncovered prima facie evidence suggesting that Chidimma Adetshina’s mother may have committed fraud and identity theft 23 years ago. While Adetshina herself has been cleared of any wrongdoing, the public has been divided—some are sympathetic, while others want her out of the competition.
Ama Qamata didn’t just sit back and watch from the sidelines. She took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice her thoughts: “It is so unfortunate that Chidimma is a scapegoat to a much bigger issue in SA.
“If anything, this exposed the level of corruption taking place in government, we need to hold them accountable for allowing such unethical procedures to take place under their governance.” Her comment, however, didn’t go down smoothly.

Oh boy, did the social media trolls have a field day! Users on X were quick to remind Ama of her own family’s controversies. One tweet read, “Not you, Ama, talking about corruption when your ‘entrepreneurial’ mom has drained the Eastern Cape government dry. Not you, sit this one out.” Ouch! Talk about a clapback.

Really, it’s a double whammy. While Chidimma has withdrawn from the competition, Ama Qamata’s family skeletons have also stumbled out of the closet. But does this scandal highlight deeper systemic issues of corruption in SA?
You bet. It’s a reminder that being vocal on public platforms comes with its own baggage. This latest saga is bound to keep tongues wagging for weeks.
