Enhle Mbali Opens Up: “I Gave Up My Career To Massage His Hand — Now I’m Starting Over”

The love story between Mbali Mlotshwa, better known as Enhle Mbali, and her ex-husband DJ Black Coffee might have started like a fairytale, but it ended with tears, tension, and testimony.

A newly surfaced Johannesburg High Court judgment, delivered by Acting Judge Mongezi Ntanga, revealed explosive details about the pair’s marriage — from the day lobola was paid to the bitter fallout that followed.

According to the judgment, Enhle Mbali told the court she pleaded with her uncles to let her marry the internationally acclaimed DJ because she was “in love” — and because, as she put it, “he was a millionaire.”

“She spoke to them and requested leniency, as she was in love and the defendant was a millionaire,” reads the judgment.

Their union was supposed to be the stuff of celebrity dreams — luxury, love, and matching red carpet moments. But behind the scenes, Mbali says she was slowly losing herself.

In one of the most shocking revelations, Mbali told the court that she sacrificed her acting career to care for her husband and his injured hand.

“In order to keep peace in the household, she looked after the house, packed the defendant’s clothes, fed him, and massaged the defendant’s injured hand,” the judgment stated.

She added that Black Coffee discouraged her from accepting romantic roles on screen, especially kissing scenes, which stunted her progress in the industry.

“The defendant was no longer comfortable with her taking kissing scenes. She testified that majority of the time she was not working,” Judge Ntanga wrote.

The actress, known for her roles in Tshisa and Rockville, said she had to choose between her passion and her marriage — and in the end, her career paid the price.

“I Used to Get Shopping Sprees in Euros and Dollars”

In court, Mbali also painted a picture of the luxury lifestyle she once lived. She claimed she was used to shopping sprees worth thousands and wanted her ex-husband to maintain that standard for her and their two sons.

She demanded R500,000 a month in maintenance, explaining that she only works a few times a year as a freelance actress.

But Black Coffee, real name Nathi Maphumulo, pushed back — saying he already pays R50,000 monthly, covers school fees, and foots extra bills including R1 million a year for one child’s racing academy and R48,000 for home security.

He argued that her claim was exaggerated and that he has always provided for his family.

Love, Money, and the Final Goodbye

Judge Ntanga confirmed that the couple’s marriage has been irretrievably broken down, officially finalising their divorce.

Mbali accused Black Coffee of infidelity and fathering children outside their marriage, while he insisted that he had done everything possible to maintain stability.

Once celebrated as a “power couple,” their story now stands as a cautionary tale — of love, fame, and the heavy cost of giving too much of yourself to someone else.

As Mbali put it, she gave up her career to massage his hand… now she’s rebuilding her life, one role at a time.
