Popular eNCA anchor Heidi Giokos found herself at the centre of a social media storm after a tense, headline-grabbing interview with US President Donald Trump at the recently concluded World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The seasoned journalist sent timelines into overdrive when she pushed back on Trump’s controversial claim that South Africa is experiencing a so-called “white genocide”. While many applauded her boldness, others were far less impressed — and some critics crossed a line that left Mzansi Twitter in shock.

Heidi Giokos Faces Racial Attacks After Trump Interview

Soon after the interview aired, Heidi became a trending topic, but not for the reasons any journalist hopes for. Instead of debating facts, some online users resorted to racial insults, personal attacks and conspiracy-fuelled accusations.

On Saturday, 24 January 2026, Giokos took to her official Facebook page to expose the abuse. She shared screenshots of posts from a vocal critic on X (formerly Twitter) using the handle @RiseAgainstEvil.

The user went as far as dragging Heidi’s interracial relationship with fellow media personality Lindokuhle Xulu into the debate, bizarrely claiming it had compromised her objectivity on South African crime issues. Yes — that was the argument.

‘Using My Trauma for Clicks Is Sick,’ Says Heidi

The criticism didn’t stop there. In a move many social media users described as disturbing, the same account resurfaced a violent robbery Heidi survived in 2022, using it as supposed “evidence” to support claims of a white genocide in the country.

That was the final straw.

Responding directly, Giokos slammed the user for what she called reckless, hateful behaviour driven by clout-chasing, especially from someone who doesn’t even live in South Africa anymore.

“The very same South African who doesn’t even live here but feels free to spew racism and hate from afar,” she wrote.
“There must be something seriously wrong with you to use someone’s trauma for clickbait.”

Her response quickly gained traction, with many South Africans rallying behind her and calling out the weaponisation of personal pain in online political debates.

Now the big question remains: Was Heidi simply doing her job — or has journalism become a battlefield where facts no longer matter?
