Elsies River Outrage: Innocent 14-Year-Old Shot By Stray Bullet Amid Rising Gun Violence

Residents of Elsies River in Cape Town are reeling with anger and heartbreak after another innocent teenager was caught in the crossfire of ongoing gun violence.

The 14-year-old boy was struck in the stomach by a stray bullet on Tuesday and remains in hospital as doctors fight to stabilise him.

This tragic incident comes less than a month after another 14-year-old lost his life in a similar shooting in the same area, leaving the community traumatised and desperate for change.

Community Devastated by Relentless Violence

Chairperson of the Elsies River Community Policing Forum, Marius Fourie, said residents are losing hope as gunfire continues to claim young lives.

“It’s very sad for the community, this child, he was actually caught in gunfire it was an innocent child, it was unprovoked, he did nothing wrong he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“It is really sad, especially when it’s children that need to live their lives, they haven’t even found the time of their lives yet,” said Fourie.

Locals say they feel unsafe in their own neighbourhoods, with stray bullets and gang crossfire becoming a grim norm. The community is urging authorities to take urgent steps to stop the bloodshed and ensure children can walk the streets without fear.
