Eight Escapees On The Run After Dramatic Afsondering Police Cell Breakout

An urgent manhunt is under way after eight detainees escaped from Afsondering Police Station on Saturday.
Eastern Cape police confirmed they are investigating the incident and have opened cases of escaping from lawful custody.
Afsondering Police Probe How Escape Happened
Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said authorities are working to determine how the detainees managed to flee.
“The circumstances surrounding the escape are currently under investigation, and we are working to establish how it occurred,” she said.
A separate case of aiding and abetting has also been opened as part of the probe, to establish whether the escapees received assistance.
Public Urged to Help Track Down Escapees
Police have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the suspects.
“Members of the public who may have information that could help locate the escapees are urged to contact the investigating team immediately,” Gantana said.
Authorities confirmed that all available leads are being followed as the search continues.

Names of Escapees Released
The escaped detainees have been identified as:
- Asiphe Yawu
- Abraham Gobozi
- Kwanele Mzala
- Siphelele Mkhulisi
- Thabo Nana
- Siphelele Nondolo
- Anele Ludidi
- Sinethemba Mazendala
Police have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of their detention.
