EFF Slams Financial Sector Failure To “Amend Regulations For payment Holidays”

The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) condemns the South African Financial Sector for refusal to adopt to danger facing society due to this coronavirus pandemic, claiming that for the national lockdown to succeed people should be given payment holidays.

They claimed that without payment holidays, people face repossessions, evictions and terminations of insurance and medical contracts.

“People will be force to undermine the lockdown to make ends meet or die of hunger.” said EFF.

They said that the refusal of financial sector to provide payment holidays to everyone will results in the collapse of lockdown and uncontrollable spread of deadly coronavirus.

EFF said on the statement that the patriotic Reserve Bank (SARB), with the considerate Governor should have imposed upon the financial sector guidelines to give payment holidays to the South Africans from the start of the lockdown.

“This should have not depended on any consultations or autonomous decision of institutions, should have been motivated solely by the urgent, crucial and definitive fact Covid-19 that is affecting us.” they said on statement.

They added that no Institution on its own should be more powerful than state.

“It cannot be that our government fears some certain sector of economy and society because they threatened potential violent respond should state regulations go against their demands.” said EFF.

EFF added that government cannot bow to pressure of anyone, merely because such people demands state to relax regulations in order for them to continue to make profit during this lockdown.

They said soon alcohol industry will also demand exceptions from the regulations, hence the entire lockdown will not make sense and collapse on its own.

They further said state must be uncompromising more especially when it comes to non essential sector economy for relaxing regulations of lockdown.

“Failure by the state to be firm and uncompromising in its approach, this lockdown will disintegrate, anarchists will triumph and we will die all.” said EFF on the statement.
