Eastern Cape Hails New Miss SA Qhawekazi Mazaleni As A ‘Beacon Of Hope’

The Eastern Cape is beaming with pride after Qhawekazi Mazaleni was crowned Miss South Africa 2025, with provincial leaders describing her as a “beacon of hope” and a reflection of the region’s enduring “Home of Legends” spirit.

The 24-year-old, affectionately known as Qhawe, was crowned at a dazzling ceremony held at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Saturday night. Hailing from Idutywa in the Amathole District Municipality, Mazaleni’s triumph has sparked an outpouring of love and admiration across the country.

A speech therapist, author, and digital creator, Mazaleni has become a powerful voice for inclusivity and education. Her journey is marked by both brilliance and compassion — qualities that have made her stand out as a role model for South Africa’s youth.

From Idutywa to the Miss SA Crown

Mazaleni becomes only the second Miss South Africa from the Eastern Cape, following in the footsteps of Zozibini Tunzi, who captured the title in 2019 before going on to win Miss Universe.

Her work in inclusive education has earned her national recognition. She has authored a children’s book for learners with cerebral palsy and holds a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, focusing on autism.

Through her advocacy, she continues to push for accessibility, representation, and equal learning opportunities for all children.

Premier Mabuyane Praises Mazaleni’s Achievements

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane led the tributes, commending Mazaleni for her dedication and the inspiration she brings to young South Africans.

“She embodies excellence, resilience, and compassion — qualities that mirror the spirit of our province,” Mabuyane said.

He added that her victory not only shines a light on her personal achievements but also reinforces the Eastern Cape’s legacy as a province that produces world-class leaders.
