Eastern Cape Horror: Learner Stabbed In Neck And Dumped In Pit Toilet At School

A 16-year-old learner from Enkwenkwezini High School in Alice, Eastern Cape, was brutally attacked on Tuesday in an incident that has shocked the local community.

The Attack

According to police, the teenager was stabbed in the neck by a fellow learner, robbed of his cellphone and cash, and then shoved into an old pit toilet on the school premises. He remained trapped overnight until another learner discovered him the following morning.

The victim was rushed to Victoria Hospital, where he is currently recovering.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana confirmed that the victim identified his attacker, a 17-year-old learner from the same school. The suspect was arrested and charged with attempted murder and robbery.

The accused appeared in court on Thursday and has been remanded in custody at the John C. Meriman Juvenile Centre until his next appearance on Monday, 25 August.

Eastern Cape Education Department Responds

Eastern Cape Department of Education spokesperson Vuyiseka Mboxela condemned the incident, urging learners to refrain from violence. She added that the department is offering support to both the victim and the school community.

Children’s rights activist Petros Majola announced that a community meeting will be held at the school on Monday to discuss urgent interventions to curb school violence.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso commended both the police and the community for their swift response. She warned that violent acts in schools will be met with the “full might of the law.”
