Eastern Cape Farm Attack: Woman Critically Injured, 200 Sheep Stolen

An attack in a homestead in the Lower Tyirha locality, Qumbu, has left a female occupant critically injured and approximately 200 sheep stolen.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 9 pm, when thieves fired shots through the window of the house before making off with the livestock.

Theft And Recovery

According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo, the suspects drove away with the sheep after firing shots, striking the female occupant in the thigh.

She was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to a hospital for further treatment.

Although the initial search was unsuccessful, police received a tip-off on Sunday, leading them to discover a cache of sheep concealed in a steep river valley near Bhelekence.

A total of 145 live sheep and 24 dead ones were recovered.

Investigation Ongoing

Despite the recovery of the stolen livestock, no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.

The Eastern Cape police are urging anyone with information to come forward, as they work to bring those responsible to justice.
