Eastern Cape Doctor Accused Of Raping Woman At Komani Practice Granted Bail

A 42-year-old medical doctor from the Eastern Cape has been released on R5,000 bail after appearing in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of rape.
Phiwe Jetro Jafta was arrested in the early hours of 18 February 2026 by members of the Komani Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
Police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed that the alleged incident took place on 11 February 2026.
Allegations Linked to Visit to PJ Jafta Foundation
According to police, a 22-year-old woman visited the doctor’s surgery to donate toddler clothing to his foundation, PJ Jafta Foundation.
It is alleged that after inspecting the donated items, the doctor offered the woman a complimentary full-body examination as a gesture of thanks.

“The victim alleged that as the doctor proceeded with the examination she was surprised when the doctor jumped over her and forced himself on her,” said Mgolodela.
Mgolodela further stated that the complainant claimed she was warned not to scream because other patients were present at the practice, and she complied.
Police added that the woman alleged she was later given a voucher to purchase a morning-after pill, claiming the act occurred without a condom.
Court Date Set In Doctor’s Case
The matter was reported at Mlungisi SAPS before being referred to the Komani FCS unit for further investigation, which led to Jafta’s arrest on 18 February.
He is expected to return to court on 30 April as investigations continue.
District Police Commissioner Rudolph Adolph has instructed investigators to ensure the case is thoroughly examined.
“Those who break the law must face the full might of the law,” Adolph said.
