E-hailing Isaac Satlat Murder Case Delayed After Prison Paperwork Blunder

The case against six suspects accused of murdering e-hailing driver Isaac Satlat has been postponed to March following an administrative mix-up.

Proceedings were due to continue in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday. However, accused number one, Dikeledi Mphela, was not transported from Attridgeville prison to court.

J7 Form Error Blamed for Court No-Show

According to correctional services documentation, Mphela is only scheduled to appear in court in March.

Despite this, the matter had been placed on the roll for Monday. The confusion reportedly arose from a J7 form — the document that authorises the detention and court appearance of an accused person.

The form was dated 3 March instead of 23 February, resulting in the accused not being brought before the court as scheduled.

The administrative oversight forced the magistrate to postpone the case.

Isaac Satlat Family’s Lawyer Calls Delay ‘Disappointing’

Six suspects were arrested in connection with Satlat’s murder. The e-hailing driver was allegedly hijacked and killed in his vehicle.

The lawyer representing the Satlat family expressed frustration over the delay.

“We are not happy, because this is a highly sensitive matter its a public matter, missing a date of court should not have taken place, there’s no reason why they should miss the date.”

The matter is now expected to resume in March, as the family continues to seek justice.
