Durban Principal Granted R5,000 Bail In Wife’s Murder Case

A Durban school principal, Khayelihle Dhlomo, 53, has been granted R5,000 bail in the Durban Magistrate’s Court after being accused of murdering his wife, Khanyisile Dhlomo, in 2022.
Khanyisile, who has been described as a beloved schoolteacher, was found with multiple stab wounds at the couple’s Malvern home in September 2022. At first, her death was ruled a suicide, but persistent suspicions from her family led to a reinvestigation.
Durban Principal Case: Forensic Evidence Points to Foul Play
Following months of investigation, forensic findings and witness testimonies suggested that Khanyisile’s death was staged. Prosecutors alleged that Dhlomo deliberately tried to make the scene look like a suicide and later attempted to evade arrest by hiding in Illovo.
Dhlomo, who is the principal of Sithembile Primary School, denied the accusations, arguing that he was suffering from health problems and did not receive proper medical care while in custody.

The court’s decision to grant bail has triggered strong backlash from Khanyisile’s relatives and women’s rights groups, who accuse the justice system of failing victims of domestic violence and femicide.
The murder trial is set to continue at a later date, with the case now under intense public scrutiny.
