Durban Couple Killed By Unknown Gunmen

In the early hours of Friday morning, a tragic shooting incident unfolded in a parking lot of a housing complex on Clayfield Drive in Phoenix.
The event, which occurred around 1 am, resulted in the deaths of a couple. According to Prem Balram from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), their control room received multiple calls from concerned residents reporting a shooting.

Upon arrival, reaction officers discovered the Phoenix SAPS already in attendance. The body of a female was found in the passenger seat of a white VW Polo, while a man, believed to be her husband, was located approximately 20 meters away in a pathway.
Both victims had been shot multiple times and were pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a silver VW Jetta, with an unknown registration, fleeing the area shortly after the murders.
The motive for the shooting has not yet been established, and the incident has left the community in shock. KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that police in Phoenix are investigating two counts of murder.
The victims, identified as a 26-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, were found with multiple gunshot wounds. This tragic event has intensified the urgency for answers and justice.

Earlier on the same morning, in a separate incident in Empangeni, three suspected criminals linked to a series of murders in the province were killed in a shootout with police. An intelligence-driven operation led members to a house in the KwaDlangezwa area.
Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire on the police, resulting in their deaths. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining safety and order.
