Durban Arms Dealer Facing Multiple Charges In Court

Durban arms dealer Anderson Padayachee returned to the Western Cape High Court on Monday, facing over 60 charges related to the illegal sale of firearms to Cape Flats gangs.

The charges against the dealer, include eight murders and five attempted murders, stemming from firearms allegedly supplied by Padayachee.

These weapons sold by the dealer, were reportedly used in gang wars across the Cape Flats, including in areas such as Bonteheuwel, Kalksteenfontein, and Lotus River.

The court papers allege Padayachee was linked to the notorious Terrible Josters gang between August 2017 and May 2019.

Mother’s Heartbreaking Testimony

In a powerful moment during the trial, Lesley-Kim Weavers, the mother of 19-year-old Chad Julius from Lotus River, took the stand to describe the tragic events surrounding her son’s death.

She recounted hearing gunshots nearby before waking to the devastating news that her son had been shot.

Recounting the sad incident, she said, “I ran to him and saw him with blood coming out of his head.”

Despite being rushed to the scene, Julius was already deceased when emergency services arrived.

Weavers could not recall the details of the crime scene due to her shock, but she confirmed that her son had ties to the Six Bobs gang, though she did not know the reason for his murder.

Gang Wars And The Role Of Padayachee

Weavers explained that her son’s death occurred amid escalating gang violence between the Six Bobs, Dog Pounds, and Mongrels.

The court has previously heard that the dealer, Padayachee supplied firearms to these gangs, and  fueling the violence.

The trial continues next month, with further evidence expected to shed light on the full extent of Padayachee’s alleged involvement in the gang wars.
