Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla Quits As MK Party MP After Allegations Over SA Men Sent To Ukraine

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has stepped down as a Member of Parliament for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party. The announcement was made during a press briefing held by the party in Durban on Friday.

Her departure comes in the wake of accusations that she was involved in recruiting 17 South African men to join the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.

The issue surfaced last weekend after her sister reportedly opened a criminal case against her, alleging that Zuma-Sambudla misled the men and put them in harm’s way.

MK Party chairperson Nathi Nhleko confirmed, “Comrade Duduzile Sambudla has tendered her resignation from the NA (National Assembly) and all public representative responsibilities with immediate effect.”

MK Party Distances Itself From Recruitment Claims

Nhleko stressed that the MK Party had no role in sending the men abroad and urged that they be brought home safely.

“Our next step as national officials is to engage the families and explain our position as a party and support them in their efforts for the safe return of these young people,” he said.

President Orders Inquiry Into Circumstances

President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered a thorough investigation into how the men — many from KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape — were recruited.

Zuma-Sambudla has firmly rejected the accusations, saying she has opened a case against a man she claims was the actual recruiter.
