Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla Faces Trial Next Week Over 2021 July Unrest Charges

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma, will appear in the Durban High Court next week to face charges related to her alleged role in the 2021 July unrest.

Zuma-Sambudla has been charged with incitement to commit terrorism and incitement to commit public violence, both stemming from the devastating unrest that swept through KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng in July 2021.

The violent riots, which followed her father’s imprisonment, resulted in widespread looting, destruction of property, and severe economic losses across the two provinces.

State Alleges Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla Used Social Media to Encourage Violence

According to the State, Zuma-Sambudla allegedly used her social media platforms to encourage the unrest by posting videos of the looting with the caption, “We see you.”

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed that the trial is scheduled to run for two weeks, from 10 to 21 November, at the Durban High Court.
