Drugs Worth R500,000 Seized En Route To Cape Town

The Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services have made a significant drug seizure along the N1 in Kraaifontein, confiscating over 500 units of drugs.

During routine vehicle checks, officers stopped a panel van travelling towards Cape Town and discovered the illicit substances. The estimated value of the drugs is R500,000.

Ricardo Mackenzie, the Western Cape member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Mobility, commended the officers for their diligent work in seizing the drugs. The driver of the van was immediately arrested for possession of an illegal substance and taken into custody at the Kraaifontein police station for further investigation.

Mackenzie expressed his pride in the provincial traffic officers and their commitment to ensuring the safety of the people in the Western Cape. He acknowledged their tireless efforts in keeping the roads and communities secure.

From February 5 to February 11, officers conducted 268 integrated roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints, and speed control operations. They stopped and checked a total of 32,226 vehicles across the province.

During the inspection of the panel van, officers noticed the driver displaying visible signs of nervousness. This prompted them to conduct a more thorough search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of the contraband.
