Drug Dealer Arrested After Threatening Officers In Verulam CBD

A 19-year-old drug dealer who threatened to kill a member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers last week has been arrested in the Verulam Central Business District (CBD).

The arrest which happened Saturday morning, was a week-long investigation into suspicious activity in the area, where local businesses had reported the dealer’s presence

The suspect was initially approached by RUSA officials on Wednesday after receiving multiple complaints from Verulam CBD businessmen.
During the interaction, the suspect warned the officers that he had connections to a notorious taxi boss and threatened to kill them if they arrested him.

Investigation That Led To Arrest
Despite the warning, the officers continued to monitor the suspect’s activities.
Earlier this week, the suspect was again seen engaging in suspicious behavior, but managed to flee when response vehicles arrived.

However, a breakthrough came Saturday morning when officers received additional reports of his activities in the area.

RUSA officers swiftly blocked off known footpaths and apprehended the suspect after a brief chase.
Evidence Found On Suspect
During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of drugs, cash, and mobile phones.
The 19-year-old, who resides in Amoutana, KZN, revealed that he had been selling drugs in the Verulam CBD since February 2025 for his brother, who was supplied by a local taxi boss.
The suspect is expected to face serious charges related to drug trafficking and threats to law enforcement officers.
