Drug Busts In Western Cape: Two Arrested With Drugs Worth R900,000

In a successful operation aimed at curbing the influx of illegal drugs into the Western Cape, local police have made significant drug seizures along the N1 in the Central Karoo.

Two separate busts resulted in the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R900,000.

Police Confiscate Dagga Worth R823,000 in Beaufort West

On Saturday, 26 April 2025, at approximately 19:45, officers from the Central Karoo Flying Squad set up a checkpoint on the N1 highway at the entrance to Beaufort West.

During a routine stop, they pulled over a Toyota RAV4, where a strong scent of dagga prompted them to search the vehicle.

Hidden under a blanket in the back, officers discovered nine bags of dagga, with an estimated street value of R823,000.

The 45-year-old driver was promptly arrested on suspicion of trafficking.

Second Drug Seizure On N1 Yields R90,000 Worth Of Dagga

Earlier in the week, on Thursday, 24 April 2025, at around 17:30, police unit, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, set up a roadblock along the N1.

A Toyota Hilux bakkie was stopped, and a thorough search led to the discovery of a suitcase containing 16 parcels of dagga.

The street value of the seized drugs was estimated at R90,000.

The driver, a 41-year-old man, was arrested on the spot for dealing.

Ongoing Police Operations Target Drug Trade in Western Cape

Both suspects remain in police custody and are set to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 29 April 2025.They each face charges of dealing.

Police management in the Western Cape commended the team for their swift actions in tackling the ongoing trade.

The police disclosed that, recent seizures form part of sustained crime-combatting operations aimed at improving road safety and disrupting the flow of illegal substances into the province.

Stating the operations will continue throughout the long weekend and beyond.
