Driver Defends Himself: Three Alleged Hijackers Shot On N1 Highway

Three men were shot and killed in an alleged attempted hijacking on the N1 North highway, near the Soweto offramp on Tuesday.

SurgeZirc SA understands that the suspects, including the three, were driving in two cars when they stopped a white bakkie. They then compelled the driver to exit his vehicle.

 

Details of the Encounter

Witness accounts indicate that the perpetrators attempted to force the driver into the boot of a red Kia. In the ensuing struggle, the driver of the bakkie managed to arm himself and opened fire on the suspects. The three alleged hijackers were shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Response from Authorities

Emergency services and law enforcement agencies, including the Gauteng Traffic Police, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, and the South African Police Service, swiftly arrived at the location.
