WATCH: Dramatic Arrest Of MP Fadiel Adams As Cops Load Him Into Police Van

Fadiel Adams, leader of the National Coloured Congress (NCC) and a Member of Parliament, has been arrested in Cape Town.

His arrest on Tuesday comes shortly after the South African Police Service (SAPS) publicly called on him to hand himself over to authorities.

Fadiel Adams Arrested Over Magaqa Murder Case Interference Allegations

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that Adams is facing charges of fraud as well as defeating and/or obstructing the course of justice.

According to Mathe, the arrest is linked to alleged interference in the investigation into the murder of Sindiso Magaqa.

“Through investigations, the task team discovered that Mr Adams interfered with the now convicted and sentenced hitman at a very sensitive and advanced stage of the police’s investigation,” said Mathe.

Fadiel Adams Speaks Out After Arrest In Cape Town

Speaking to the media following his arrest, Adams claimed he feared mistreatment while in custody.

“This is how it works. I am telling you what is going to happen. Let them do their worst,” he said, adding that he “probably needed a holiday anyway.”

In interviews with Radio 786 on Monday and Tuesday, Adams said he was aware of a warrant for his arrest but had not been shown the charges.

“The problem is that my attorneys have contacted the political killings task team (PKTT), who have confirmed that there’s a warrant out for me, but they will not show them the warrant so that we can start preparing.”

Dispute Over Arrest Process And Charges

Adams questioned why authorities deployed significant resources to arrest him, insisting he is not accused of a violent crime.

“I’ve not killed anyone. I’ve never been accused of killing anyone, and I’ve never been accused of a violent crime.”

He also claimed to have contacted senior police leadership, including General Mkhwanazi and the police minister, offering to cooperate through his legal team if a warrant existed.

Police, however, maintain that arrangements had been made with his attorney for him to present himself at Cape Town Central Police Station on Monday, 4 May 2026, but that he failed to comply.

Adams suggested the charges may relate to how he obtained classified police information, which he used to open cases against officers.

He said the matter is now before the Western Cape High Court, where the legality of the warrant and police actions will be challenged.

“We will see the police services in court tomorrow [Wednesday] morning. The judge will make a determination on the lawfulness of this warrant and the lawfulness of their action,” he said.

Authorities, however, insist the warrant is tied to allegations that Adams interfered with an active investigation into Magaqa’s murder.
