Born in Orlando East, Soweto, in 1944, Dr Kaizer Motaung began his football journey with Orlando Pirates at just 16.

His talent soon took him overseas, where he played for the Atlanta Chiefs in the United States, gaining international experience that would later influence his vision for South African football.

Kaizer Motaung Founded Kaizer Chiefs: A Vision for Excellence

In 1970, at the age of 25, Motaung returned to South Africa determined to create a football club that combined talent development, professional excellence, and community engagement.

With the support of key founding figures, Kaizer Chiefs was officially established, marking the start of what would become one of the country’s most influential sporting institutions.
