Seven distinguished former South African footballers — along with a revered coach — were honoured on Friday evening as they were officially inducted into the SA Hall of Fame.

Kaizer Chiefs legends Doctor Khumalo and Mark Williams were among those celebrated for their outstanding contributions to the sport.

The event recognised some of the country’s most influential football figures, acknowledging their roles in shaping South Africa’s football heritage.

Khumalo, the former Kaizer Chiefs captain with more than 400 appearances for the club, expressed heartfelt appreciation.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Khosi family for their support and encouragement. I could not have done it without them supporting me every step of the way,” Khumalo said.

“Above all, I would like to thank the chairman for his support and dedication in guiding me through this challenging journey.”

Williams — a fellow 1996 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion — reflected on the meaning of receiving the honour during his lifetime.

“For me and what I went through in my football career, it was a wonderful occasion to be honoured while I am still alive,” he stated. “I have seen many players honoured after they have passed, and I think it is important they celebrate legends while they are still alive.”
