DJ Zinhle’s R850 ‘Era’ Earrings Pop Up On Shein For R24 — Fans Furious Over “Brazen Dupes”

DJ Zinhle’s R850 ‘Era’ Earrings Pop Up On Shein For R24 — Fans Furious Over “Brazen Dupes”

South Africans were left clutching their pearls — or rather, their Era by DJ Zinhle earrings — after eagle-eyed social media users spotted what looked like exact replicas of the star’s luxury accessories on Shein for just R24.

The drama began when user @Yvette_Aloe took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a screenshot showing a pair of earrings identical to DJ Zinhle’s signature Era pieces, complete with the Era branding. The revelation sent fans spiralling into outrage and confusion, with many calling for action against the international fast-fashion retailer.

“Support Local, Not Dupes!” Fans Rally Behind  DJ Zinhle

Online users were quick to defend the businesswoman, insisting that local brands deserve better protection and support.

“If the earrings are Era dupes, no one should buy them,” said @Cheri_flavour, adding, “Local brands work too hard; supporters must do their best to make it worthwhile.”

For context, DJ Zinhle’s original Era earrings retail for R850, while Shein’s “lookalikes” were listed for just R24 — a massive price gap that reignited debates about copycat culture and ethical fashion.

Another user, @Lungie_R_K, commented: “This is insane. Seeing this must be devastating for the brand.”

While @cikymtwesi fumed: “Yoh! As an Era gal, this makes me very upset! The audacity!!”

Could It Be Legit or Just a Dupe Drama?

Not everyone was convinced this was a Shein scandal. Some users speculated that the listing could’ve been made by a third-party seller — or even Era itself testing new markets.

“Shein, like Takealot or Amazon, lets anyone list items for sale. What if Zinhle listed them herself?” argued @JayceeMarvatona.

But others weren’t buying it (literally or figuratively). @Yvette_Aloe doubled down:

“This is absolutely deplorable. We need to be patriotic and support our own. Is there an avenue we can explore to report them? I wonder if DJ Zinhle is aware of this yet.”

Still, @BlaqSabali offered a dose of realism:

“Unfortunately, the economy isn’t set up for people to think like that. Everyone wants to be part of the culture — hence dupes will fly.”

As of now, DJ Zinhle hasn’t officially addressed the controversy — but her Era by DJ Zinhle brand has long been under the spotlight for supplier similarities and manufacturing rumours linking it to global fashion hubs.

And it seems like fans are not about to let this one slide. Because in the world of accessories, there’s fake — and then there’s fashion fraud.
