DJ Warras Murder Suspect, Victor Majola Set To Apply For Bail In Johannesburg

One of the suspects linked to the murder of DJ and security consultant Warrick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, is scheduled to return to court this week to formally apply for bail.

Victor Majola is due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he will face a bail application on charges of murder and premeditated murder.

The charges stem from the fatal shooting of DJ Warras on 16 December in Johannesburg. Majola was arrested last month in connection with the high-profile killing, after an earlier court appearance was postponed at the request of the state.

Bail Application in DJ Warras Murder Case

Majola had been expected to apply for bail at an earlier stage, but the matter was delayed when the prosecution sought more time. His legal team has since maintained that the case against him is weak.

Speaking to journalists last week, Majola’s lawyer, Dumisani Mabunda, said his client was likely to be granted bail when he returned to court. He argued that the state does not have sufficient evidence to justify continued detention.

“This accused was not arrested at the crime scene, he was not arrested on the same day of the incident, and during the arrest nothing illegal was found in his possession,” Mabunda said.

“There is nothing that links this particular accused to this matter, except a statement by one of the former co-accused, whose charges were withdrawn, alleging that Mr Majola was involved.”

Defence Argues State Lacks Strong Evidence

Mabunda further told the court that the prosecution does not have a prima facie case and that exceptional circumstances exist which support the granting of bail.

“The court will, of course, consider both the state’s version and ours and then make a determination,” Mabunda said.

“But based on the facts at hand, we believe there is a very good chance that the accused will be released on bail, albeit with conditions.”

During earlier proceedings, the magistrate also enquired about Majola’s health while in custody, including whether he had received medical care at the Johannesburg prison.

Majola confirmed that he had been attended to and told the court that he had seen a doctor on Monday. He had previously claimed to be injured and requested medical treatment during a prior court appearance.

DJ Warras was shot and killed outside the Zambesi House building in Johannesburg’s central business district while carrying out his duties as a security contractor at the premises.
