DJ Sbu Resigns From Radio 2000 Amid Listener Backlash

DJ Sbu has sent social media into a frenzy after announcing his resignation from Radio 2000’s breakfast show—months before his contract was set to end.
The former Friends Like These host, real name Sbusiso Leope, shocked fans on Monday, 25 February 2025, when he took to X (formerly Twitter) to break the news.
The Announcement
“This serves to inform you that after much reflection and consideration, I have decided to resign as a morning radio host at Radio 2000, part of the South African Broadcasting Corporation. This decision came earlier than the end of my contract, which was set to conclude on March 30, 2025.”

DJ Sbu revealed that he is moving on to greener pastures, hinting at a brand-new breakfast show launching on a different platform in April.
“I am preparing for a brand new breakfast morning show that I am excited to launch on a different platform starting from April 1, 2025. This new opportunity presents a fresh chapter in my career, and I am eager to embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.”

Backlash from Listeners—Did They Push DJ Sbu Out?
While DJ Sbu’s resignation came as a surprise, some Radio 2000 listeners weren’t too sad to see him go. Many had been vocal about their dissatisfaction with his style and energy on the show, saying he was not a good fit for the station’s audience.
