DJ Fresh’s Son Just Graduated And The Pride Is Written All Over Dad’s Face

Graduation season is in full swing and Mzansi’s favourite families are showing up and showing out. Thato Motlotlegi Sikwane, better known as YBF — Young Boy Fresh — has walked across that stage and collected his degree, and honestly, this one deserves every single flower.

YBF is the son of the legendary DJ Fresh and the late Thabiso Sikwane, who was herself a powerhouse in the South African entertainment industry.

He lost his mother just two years ago — and he still showed up, still pushed through, and still came out the other side holding a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from Emeris Sandton. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

DJ Fresh took to social media and did not hold back a single emotion, captioning his son’s graduation content with a very justified “MONDAY WAS A GOOD DAY!!!” followed by enough emojis to fill a stadium.

He gave flowers to @khosinkosi for keeping the family looking sharp on the day, and to Emeris — the evolved institution that grew from IIE’s Varsity College, Vega, MSA and HSM — for showing his son compassion and grace through what was undeniably a difficult academic journey.

What makes YBF’s story even more compelling is that he is not just riding on his father’s name. Yes, he DJs — the apple does not fall far — but he is also carving out his own lane in the marketing industry, degree now firmly in hand.

The Sikwane legacy is very much alive and expanding, and this graduation is proof that grief does not get the final word. Congratulations, YBF. Your mom would be so proud.
