Distraught Mother Of Kidnapped Baby Loses Faith After Another Court Delay

The mother of a kidnapped newborn is heartbroken and frustrated after the court case linked to her child’s abduction was once again delayed.

Sameemah Jacobs, who stands accused of kidnapping nine-day-old baby Imaad Sharmar, made a brief appearance at the Bellville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Jacobs allegedly abducted the infant from his mother, Imaan Sharmar, at Middestad Mall in Bellville while posing as a volunteer from a non-profit organisation.

Baby Imaad’s mother expressed deep disappointment following the latest postponement, saying the repeated delays are taking an emotional toll on her.

Accused Requests Bail Conditions Be Relaxed

Three weeks ago, Jacobs asked the court to amend her bail conditions. She requested permission to collect belongings from her former home in Mitchells Plain — an area she is currently barred from entering as part of her bail restrictions. The same area is where baby Imaad and his mother live.

Imaan Sharmar voiced her concern over what she perceives as leniency towards Jacobs. “I do feel like there is some sort of a consideration towards her relaxation of bail conditions… She’s the one that gets to call all the shots and I don’t get it… and she’s just freelancing her like she did nothing wrong,” she said.

State Opposes Bail Amendment

Prosecutor Salaahudeen Simon confirmed that the State intends to oppose Jacobs’ request to visit Mitchells Plain.

The case has been postponed to 6 November to allow Jacobs’ lawyer time to submit the formal application.
