Man Dies In Hospital After Brutal Sjambok Attack In Bronville

Bronville police in the Free State are investigating a brutal sjambok assault that led to the death of an unidentified African male in his twenties. On Tuesday, 12 March 2025.

Officers who responded to a distress call from Philander Street, found the man lying unconscious in the street.

According to the police spokesperson Sergeant Palesa Thabana, the victim had sustained multiple sjambok marks on his face and body, indicating the severity of the attack.

Thabana said, “Upon arrival, they found an unidentified African male estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old, lying unconscious in the street.”

The victim was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical care, but tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Details Of The Victim’s Appearance

The deceased who was attacked by the sjambok was described as having a dark complexion and was wearing a maroon T-shirt, a black suit, and grey and white sneakers when found.

Despite efforts by medical personnel, the man could not survive the brutal assault, his identity remains unknown, and police are appealing to the public for help in identifying him.

“The victim’s appearance is distinctive, and we hope someone may recognize him based on his clothing or other features,” added Thabana.

Investigation Underway, No Arrests Made

The police have confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the sjambok assault, and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident, the victim’s identity, or the individuals responsible for the attack to come forward.

“This is a tragic incident, and we are committed to finding those responsible for this brutal act,” Thabana stated.

“We ask anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has any relevant information to contact us.”
