The Skeem Saam actress says her heavily armed bodyguards during her time with taxi boss Oupa Jossiah "Bafana" Sindane were all about South Africa's high femicide rate. She insists she simply didn't feel safe and wanted extra protection.

It all started on Monday, when a social media user, @gizelleanastacia, dropped a comment under Amanda's post. She wrote: "Shame Amanda, the fact that someone like you has to walk around with a bodyguard just shows how little our country is doing to protect women and educate young men 😢". Amanda replied within minutes, saying this was "the exact message I'm deliberately trying to get across 😌 we need change!"

Why Amanda Du-Pont's Bodyguards Have Mzansi Talking

Remember the matching outfits, people? For the past few years, Amanda and Bafana kept the streets talking by stepping out in coordinated looks. Whispers claimed Bafana was cheating on his wife, whom many call "ouma", and Amanda was named as the other woman.

Madlanga Commission Drama Adds Fuel To The Bodyguards Debate

Here's where it gets even messier, Mzansi. The commission heard on Monday that an internal Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) letter, linking Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala's alleged use of blue lights to the EMPD, was sent to Sindane's phone. It was allegedly sent by intermediary Timothy Moyane.

That document is part of a bigger pile of cellphone records and financial evidence placing Sindane at the centre of allegations involving extortion, illicit police access and the unauthorised flow of state intelligence. These are allegations, remember, and nothing has been proven. But the noise is deafening!

Sindane also skipped the party. On Friday, 25 September, the commission dismissed his postponement application, saying his evidence would be heard on Monday, 28 September, "in whatever format" it decided. He did not show up, and evidence leader advocate Matthew Chaskalson, SC, told the commission that a second urgent application to overturn that ruling was dismissed with a punitive costs order by the Gauteng High Court that same morning.

Away from the commission, Sindane, Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni and two others face charges of extortion and money laundering in the Kwaggafontein Magistrates' Court in Mpumalanga.
