Deadly Shootouts In KZN: 8 Murder Suspects Killed In Police Clashes In Inanda And Hammersdale

KwaZulu-Natal police fatally shot three suspected murderers during a high-intensity shootout in Amaoti, Inanda, on Monday morning. The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the crime scene was still active, with more details to follow as investigations continue.

This latest incident adds to a wave of violent confrontations between police and armed suspects in the province.

Five Killed in Hammersdale After Police Ambush

In a separate incident on Sunday night, five suspected criminals—linked to a brutal double murder—were killed during a shootout with police in the Mophela section of Mpumalanga township near Hammersdale.

According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, police had tracked the suspects’ vehicle and attempted to intercept them.
“Police caught up with the suspects and signalled for them to stop. The suspects ignored police instructions and instead opened fire at law enforcement officers,” he said.

Police returned fire, killing all five suspects. Officers recovered three firearms at the scene and were still in the process of thoroughly searching the vehicle.

Murder Victims and Cop Killings Linked to Gang

Colonel Netshiunda confirmed that the suspects were wanted for the murder of a 66-year-old man, gunned down in his home in Ekwandeni last Saturday. The same man had narrowly survived an earlier attempt on his life in January, but his wife was tragically shot and killed in February.

“The suspects are also linked to the murder of two police officers,” Netshiunda said, noting that ongoing investigations may uncover their involvement in additional violent crimes.

Law enforcement continues to intensify efforts across KwaZulu-Natal to dismantle criminal networks responsible for violent attacks.
