Deadly Shootout In Pinetown: Suspected Hitman Killed By Police Before Alleged Municipal Hit

A suspected hitman has been killed during a shootout with police in Pinetown, west of Durban.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday after law enforcement agencies tracked the 41-year-old suspect to a hideout.

Wanted for Multiple Murders Across KZN

Police said the suspect had been linked to more than ten murder cases, mainly along the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

Authorities believe he was preparing to carry out another attack within hours, allegedly targeting officials from the Umdoni Local Municipality.

Gunfight Erupts In Pinetown During Arrest Attempt

According to police, a joint operation involving the SAPS eThekwini District Trio Crimes Unit, SAPS KZN Crime Intelligence, Durban Metro Police Trio Crimes Unit and the Durban Metro Police K9 Unit led officers to the suspect’s location.

During an attempt to arrest him, the suspect allegedly opened fire on officers, prompting a shootout.

He was fatally wounded during the exchange. Police confirmed that firearms were recovered at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
