Deadly R21 Crash: Man Killed After Early Morning Smash In Kempton Park

A man has lost his life following a single-vehicle accident on the R21 northbound, close to the Voortrekker Road off-ramp in Kempton Park, during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Emergency teams from the City of Ekurhuleni responded to the scene shortly after the incident, which occurred at approximately 3.24am. Reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a roadside barrier.

Paramedics who arrived on site found one male occupant, believed to be in his late thirties, inside the vehicle. After assessing him, they confirmed he had died at the scene.

Fatal R21 Crash Near Kempton Park Claims One Life

According to City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson Tikkie MacDonald, the call for assistance came in the early hours of the morning.

“At approximately 3.24am this morning, the City of Ekurhuleni’s Emergency Services received a call for a motor vehicle accident on the R21, northbound, shortly before the Voortrekker road off-ramp, Kempton Park,” MacDonald said.

She confirmed that responders found a single-vehicle crash where the driver had veered off course and struck a barrier.

Officials from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department were also present at the scene. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.

The deceased was later transported to the Germiston Mortuary by Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services.

Traffic Flow Maintained as Officials Urge Caution on Roads

Only one lane of the highway was affected while emergency services and recovery crews worked at the scene. Traffic continued to move, albeit with some disruption.

MacDonald conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, stating: “The City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.”

Motorists have been reminded to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and stay alert—particularly during early morning hours when driving conditions can be more hazardous.
