Deadly Meyerton Ambush: Victims And Suspects Identified As Lesotho Nationals

A deadly shooting on the R59 near Meyerton, south of Johannesburg, has claimed the lives of six people, police have confirmed.

The victims were travelling in a minibus when they came under attack from a group of suspects who opened fire. Several others were wounded during the incident and rushed for medical care.

Authorities say the violent ambush unfolded suddenly, leaving little time for those inside the vehicle to escape.

Meyerton  Victims and Suspects Confirmed as Lesotho Nationals

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that all those involved in the incident — both the victims and the suspects — are Lesotho nationals.

While three suspects have already been taken into custody, investigators have not yet revealed what may have led to the attack. Police stress that the motive remains unknown as inquiries continue.

Officials are working to piece together the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.

Forensic Teams Remain on Scene as Arrests Made

Gauteng Police Deputy Commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana confirmed that the crime scene remains active as forensic teams continue their work.

“All three suspects were arrested and scene is still on and our forensics team is still on the ground processing the scene and that the job is done thoroughly to the expected level. All the deceased are Lesotho including the injured are Lesotho nationals, six of those who passed on also were shot at.”

The three suspects arrested in connection with Tuesday’s shooting are expected to appear in court soon.

Police say investigations are ongoing and further details will be released once more information becomes available.
