Deadly Drive-By Horror: 24-Year-Old Killed In Cape Town Gang Shooting

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed while two others were injured in a suspected gang-related drive-by shooting in Lavender Hill, Cape Town, on Tuesday evening.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that South African Police Service (SAPS) officers responded to the scene at around 7pm.

Murder and Attempted Murder Cases Opened After Deadly Drive-By 

According to Van Wyk, Steenberg police have registered a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

“On Tuesday, 24 February at about 7pm, SAPS members attended a shooting incident at the corner of St Christopher and St George Street, Lavender Hill.

“Upon their arrival, they found the body of a 24-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to the body lying on the pavement. Two other males, aged 22 and 53, were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

“The motive for the drive-by shooting is believed to be gang-related,” Van Wyk said.

Community Tensions Rise

The Steenberg Community Policing Forum (CPF) has strongly condemned the continued violence.

CPF Chairperson Nicola Small said the community remains on edge following the attack.

“The area is understandably tense, and residents deserve to feel safe in their homes and streets,” Small said.

She urged anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who has information that could assist investigators to come forward.

“Nothing changes if nothing changes. Young men are losing their lives on our streets, and we can’t stay silent if we want this cycle of violence to stop,” she added.
