Dawn Park Murder: Three Arrested Over Ninth Ekurhuleni Woman’s Death

Police have arrested three people in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered in Dawn Park, Ekurhuleni, in what SAPS has described as a breakthrough in the investigation.

The suspects, comprising one man and two women, were arrested over the weekend by members of the Gauteng Murder and Robbery Unit.

The trio is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 21 September, where further details about the case are expected to emerge.

Dawn Park Murder Leads To Three Arrests

The woman, believed to have been about 30 years old, was found partially clothed in an open area on Lama Street in Villa Liza on 17 September.

Police said she had suffered a fatal throat injury, while preliminary information indicated that she may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the Dawn Park location.

Her discovery became the ninth murder case involving women being investigated across the Ekurhuleni and Kempton Park areas over recent weeks.

The victim has not been publicly identified, and police have not confirmed that all nine cases are connected.

Police Intensify Probe Into Nine Women’s Deaths

Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said all nine murder cases were receiving priority attention.

“We remain committed to ensuring that these investigations are pursued with the urgency and determination they require. Our investigators are following all available leads and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia also confirmed that the investigation had been strengthened, with Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo and KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi called in to assist.

Police have also increased deployments in areas including KwaThema, Nigel and Dawn Park as authorities respond to concerns surrounding the killings.

Nine Ekurhuleni Women’s Deaths Under Investigation

The Dawn Park case is the latest in a series of deaths involving women whose bodies have been discovered in parts of Ekurhuleni and surrounding areas since July.

The cases include the deaths of Itumeleng Kekana, Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, Dineo Evelyn Motapane and Gracious Nkomo, whose identities have been publicly confirmed. Other victims remain unidentified.

The first woman was found in a field in Kempton Park on 15 July, while Kekana was reported missing on 17 July before her body was discovered on Great North Road in Pomona on 3 August.

Other bodies were subsequently found in areas including the R21, Clayville, Rhodesfield, Olifantsfontein and KwaThema, before the ninth victim was discovered in Dawn Park.

While police are investigating the cases as a priority, authorities have not established publicly that the deaths were all committed by the same person or are connected.

The three Dawn Park suspects are expected to appear in court, where prosecutors are expected to outline the allegations against them.
